A gut bacterium tied directly to PCOS severity

A large meta-analysis with genuine, broad improvements
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 26 randomised controlled trials found that probiotics, prebiotics, or synbiotics improved a wide range of PCOS-related markers in women taking them: weight, waist circumference, cholesterol levels, fasting glucose, insulin resistance, and testosterone all showed measurable improvement compared with placebo. Synbiotics, which combine live bacteria with the fibre that feeds them, showed more pronounced effects than either probiotics or fibre alone.

As with any probiotic, the finding that synbiotics outperformed probiotics alone reinforces a broader point: introducing helpful bacteria without also feeding them and the rest of the gut with fibre gives them far less chance of establishing themselves well enough to shift insulin resistance and hormone levels.
An honest caveat on study quality
