The same food, wildly different responses


Even in people without diabetes, blood sugar spikes after meals vary enormously from person to person. They gave a separate group of people either a diet designed around their predicted personal blood sugar responses or a standard expert-recommended diet, in a blinded, randomised trial. The personalised diet produced significantly lower blood sugar spikes than the standard diet. This improvement was accompanied by measurable changes in gut bacteria composition, directly linking the dietary change, the microbiome shift, and the clinical improvement in blood sugar control.
